Masebo in tears after receiving her flowers

A WAVE of emotion washed over Zambia’s Ministry of Health yesterday as staff surprised Health minister Sylvia Masebo In a heartwarming display of appreciation for her dedication during the grueling battles against COVID-19 and Cholera.

It is not common to be appreciated while you’re alive but the staff at the ministry expressed their love and appreciation.

They entered the minister’s office bearing a beautifully arranged red velvet bouquet of flowers, neatly wrapped gifts in boxes of different sizes and a collage of pictures of the Minister and health worker in the field during the pandemics

For Masebo, this wasn’t simply a celebration – it was a raw journey down memory lane.

Tears welled in her eyes as she received the gifts – a reminder of the immense burdens she carried.

The collage brought back vivid images of overflowing hospitals, countless patients battling for life, and the heavy weight of announcing national tragedies.

Masebo recalled tirelessly pleading with international organisations like the WHO and US Aid for resources.

The repurposing of Heroes Stadium as a cholera treatment center also became a stark symbol of the crisis.

These memories overwhelmed her, the tears flowing freely.

“When you feel how I am feeling now, you would also run out of words,” she shared, her voice thick with emotion. “This journey has been tiring, even for me.”

Yet, amidst the challenges, there was resilience.

“Through the collaborative efforts of various ministries and health workers, we managed to get where we are,” she stated with pride.

Netizens echoed the sentiments as social media platforms buzzed with praise for Masebo’s unwavering commitment.

“I witnessed her hard work,” commented Pamela Phiri online, whose son battled cholera at National Heroes Stadium. “She was there 24/7, even spending nights there.”

“Congrats, Honorable Masebo,” another Facebook user Obby Munyaule chimed in. “You really deserve the recognition for your hard work.”
