SKID marks snaked across the pavement in front of Mike’s Car Wash Bar on Kafue Road, as 16-year-old boy from Lusaka’s Chilenje South died after falling from a moving vehicle on Saturday afternoon.
It is reported that the young Bwalya Kasuba was clinging to the open window as part of a stunt while Warren Simwanza of Garden House was behind the wheel, in a dangerous game of spinning and drifting.
However, the adrenaline running and the thrill from cheering spectators turned into horror when the Kasuba lost his grip, tumbling off the moving car.
According to eye witnesses the same vehicle he was in ran him over.
Bystanders rushed to his aid, but their efforts proved futile. The teenager succumbed to his injuries on the way to Chawama Level One Hospital
Deputy Police Public spokesperson Danny Mwale, confirmed the accident.
“The accident happened around 15:00 hours,” Mwale said. “The boy was a passenger in a BMW car, registration number AAJ 1414, and was reportedly sitting on the window when he fell off.”
Mwale said the boy sustained fatal injuries and died while being rushed to Chawama Level One Hospital.
His body has been deposited at the University Teaching Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
Mwale said the vehicle has been impounded at Police Station for examination.
Police have warned against the dangers of passengers riding in precarious positions on moving vehicles.
