IN a move aimed at ensuring the safety and academic productivity of students, the Ministry of Education (MOE) has issued a directive regarding Easter holidays in boarding schools.
The ministry’s permanent secretary Joel Kamoko directed boarding schools not to release learners to go home during the Easter holidays which starts on Friday, March 29 and Monday, April 1.
Kamoko stated that the dates fall within the school term hence the decision in question.
“Boarding schools should therefore not release learners to go home during the Easter holiday, he emphasized, schools should work out very productive programmes that should keep learners academically busy and well engaged in progressive activities,” Kamoko said through a statement.
Furthermore, Kamoko underscored the importance of mitigating the risk of COVID-19 and cholera outbreaks within boarding school premises.
To this end, he said visitations during the Easter holidays have been strictly prohibited as a measure in line with Government’s commitment to safeguarding the health and well-being of learners.
Traditionally, learners have used Easter holidays as an excuse to go back home and reunite with their families during the long weekend.
