Zambia celebrates founding President with “KK@100” Marathon

Zambia has just stepped on the clutch slowly transitioning to the gas peddle, gearing up to celebrate the legacy of its founding president, Kenneth Kaunda, with a special “KK@100” marathon on his birthday next month.

This event, organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Lusaka Fitness Club, and the National Museums Board, coincides with what would have been Kaunda’s 100th birthday on April 28, 2024.

The marathon offers a unique opportunity for participants to honor Kaunda’s legacy, participate in a commemorative event that celebrates the life and achievements of a national icon.

Kenneth Kaunda, also affectionately known as “KK,” played a pivotal role in Zambia’s fight for independence from British rule.

He served as the country’s first president from 1964 to 1991 and earned widespread respect for his dedication to peace and freedom in Africa.

Therefore, enjoy a fun and healthy event while showcasing the beauty and spirit of the country that encourages physical activity and togetherness.

The marathon will offer a variety of distances to cater to individuals of all fitness levels, ranging from a 5km veteran’s run/walk to a challenging 42km full marathon.
