THE Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested President Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s driver and security personnel, Juvensio Mathews Phiri, aged 53, for trafficking 55.6 Kg of loose cannabis.
Phiri was apprehended in Lusaka’s Chelstone area after being trailed from Chipata, where he was transporting the contraband meant for distribution in Lusaka.

Mwenge Mulenga said through a statement that the suspect is currently in police custody and faces charges under the Narcotic and Psychotropic Substances Act No. 35 of 2021.
Simultaneously, DEC in the Southern Province arrested three individuals – Stella Mulala, Edina Muwezwa, and Siphelani Marumahoko – for trafficking 1,392 bottles of benylin with codeine.
Intercepted at the Kazungula One Stop Border post while en route to Lusaka from South Africa, they now face joint charges.
In Mwense District, Luapula Province, the Commission apprehended four people for illegal cultivation and trafficking of cannabis, weighing over 300 kilograms.
The suspects include Mathews Nkandu, Newman Chongo, Kasuba Chilambwe, Francis Mpundu, and Joe Chishala.
Furthermore, DEC in a separate operation in Northern Province, arrested Sydney Simfukwe, aged 29, for illegally cultivating over 100 kilograms of fresh cannabis.
Mulenga said all suspects are in lawful police custody and are set to appear in court soon.
