WATER Resources Management Authority (WARMA) Director General Kenneth Nyundu has been arrested and charged by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for corruption involving over K700,000.
Nyundu faces three counts, including making a false document to deceive and defraud, uttering a false document to the Permanent Secretary, and dishonestly obtaining funds as Vehicle Allowance by falsely claiming to have purchased a Toyota Hilux.
According to ACC head of corporate communication Timothy Moono, the institution’s investigations revealed that Nyundu manipulated his contract, triggering unauthorized allowances.
He disclosed thta despite being entitled to a vehicle allowance upon purchasing a personal vehicle, Nyundu allegedly presented a false contract and used an institutional vehicle.
“The arrest follows investigations conducted on allegation that Nyundu made a false document, namely his contract of employment and did insert the words ‘net of tax’ to the false contract document and this triggered payment to him of more money in allowances which he was not entitled to,” Moono stated.
“Further…although Nyundu was entitled to a vehicle allowance, this was only to be effected when he purchases a personal to holder motor vehicle. However, it is alleged that Nyundu did not purchase a personal to holder motor Vehicle but was using an institutional vehicle.”
Moono said Nyundu has been released on bond and is set to appear in court soon.
