THE Department of Immigration has cautioned job seekers against falling prey to circulating fake job adverts on several social media platforms.
In a statement released yesterday, Department of Immigration public relations officer, Namati Nshinka dismissed the social media trending job vacancies advertisements, stating that the department uses it’s own procedure in advertising vacancies in the public service.
He said the people behind the fake job alarms are going as far as duping innocent job seeking citizens of their money.
“The Department of Immigration notes with concern an increase in incidents of fake job adverts circulating on various social media platforms. Sadly, some unsuspecting job seekers have fallen prey to these scams and have been swindled of their hard-earned money,” said Nshinka.
According to Nshinka, the criminals are sending false emails to job seekers, claiming to be from the department, notifying them that they have been shortlisted for interviews and further demanding payment for police clearance and medicals, contrary to the department’s procedure.
He further notified the public that the department of Immigration never asks any payment from job applicants during the recruitment process.
“Another fake advert making rounds is accompanied by a link asking people to apply online. We categorically disown these adverts and emails designed to deceive and exploit innocent job seekers,” he noted.
Further, he said true adverts from the department were advertised in the Zambia Daily mail Newspaper as per usual.
“I keeping with the procedure for advertising vacancies in the public service, the Department advertised the vacant positions of Immigration Assistant and Border Guard in the Daily Mail Newspaper dated 6th and 7th November, 2023 and on the Department’s official website www.zambiaimmigration.gov.zm. Further, our advert guided that applications were to be hand-delivered to the addresses indicated by 17th November 2023,” Nshinka said.
However, members of the public have been cautioned to always ensure that facts on any job advert are checked to avoid being victims of fraud, and also report any fake advert they come across by calling the Department of Immigration contact centre on +260 211428800.
