POLICE in Lusaka have detained Lumezi member of parliament Munir Zulu on a charge of sedition.

The charge stems from the 35-year old lawmaker’s claims during an interview with journalists last Wednesday at Ibex Police Station that he had impeccable information that President Hakainde Hichilema would use his last address in Parliament on Friday to resign and call for fresh elections.

According to Zambia Police Service deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale, Zulu’s claims incited Zambians to prepare for campaign activities following the hypothetical dissolution of Parliament.

Mwale said Zulu was currently in police custody awaiting a court appearance.
