FRESH from prison, Mumbi Phiri has announced her intentions to run for the PF presidency being contested by eight other party members.
If she is allowed to file her nomination, the former PF deputy Secretary General will be the only female candidate.
The former ruling party was scheduled to hold an elective general conference last month but the plans were derailed after Lungu secretly recainded his decision to leave active politics.
Sources close to Lungu told Kalemba that, associates of the former president have convinced him that if elections were held today, he would win by landslide.
Since then, Lungu has been making calculated public appearances subtle political statements with his number one bootlicker and close associate Bowman Lusambo and insisting he was still PF president.
To return to the presidency of the party, Lungu will have Miles Sampa and Chishimba Kambwili yo contend with.
But three days after leaving prison where she had been for 13 months co-accused with Lungu’s barberman Shebby Chilekwa of murder, Phiri visited her former boss, presented him with a doormat she knitted during her time behind bars and revealed her intentions to contest the PF presidency.
In an exclusive interview muvi TV, journalist Esther Nkhoma Phiri says the decision has been arrived at after seeing the numerous injustices women, children and other elders go through both in prison and outside under the hands of the current administration.
She said her jailing has even made her stronger to the point that she is now ready to face tough times ahead and says her being the only Woman who has broken the record of prolonged dentantion in jail since Zambia’s political independence she is more than capable to lead the nation if given the necessary support.
