THE Lumezi villager, Munir Zulu was today arrested and quickly released on police bond, over hate speech and uttering tribal remarks.
Zulu, who is Lumezi independent member of parliament, was rebooked into police custody today, a week after being released on three counts of criminal libel he made against finance minister Dr Situmbeko Musokotwane, Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Charles Milupi and Road Development Agency (RDA) Board chairperson Mulchand Kuntawala.
Upon his release on police bond, Zulu, 35, remarked: “I am a villager of Lumezi, but the villagers from Lumezi are more intelligent than the villagers of Bweengwa.”
Zambia police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale said in a statement to Kalemba that Zulu was arrested and charged for uttering, expressing or showing hatred, ridicule or contempt for persons because of race, tribe, place of origin or colour contrary to the laws of Zambia.
Mwale said Zulu made tribal remarks on March 28, 2023 at Long Acres Police Post car park after he was released from police custody.
“The suspect has been released on police bond pending court appearance,” stated Mwale.
