Police charge Luapula DPS, two district commissioners over sugilite

THE three Government officials that were apprehended yesterday by police for being linked to theft of sugilite minerals have been formally charged and arrested..
 
Sugilite is a precious mineral that is mined in Luapula Province, especially in Chembe district.
 
Luapula Province deputy permanent secretary Roy Mwansa, Nchelenge district commissioner Musonda Mutepuka and Mwansabombwe district commissioner Molton Sikazwe have been slapped with the offence of conveying property reasonably suspected to be stolen and for carrying out mining operations without a license.
 
According Zambia Police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale, the trio have been released on police bond, waiting for court appearance.
