MILES Sampa has threatened to drag the registrar of societies to court if it does not order the leaderless PF to hold its elective general conference within the next seven days.

The Matero member of parliament who is also seeking to replace vanquished Edgar Lungu as party president has since written to the the registrar of societies.

In a letter dated February 20, 2023, Sampa stated that the PF has been illegally appointing leaders, without following the provisions of the party constitution.

He said following the resignation of Edgar Lungu as party president two years ago, then party secretary general Davies Mwila should have taken up the position of acting president.

Lungu, however, decided to appoint Given Lubinda as acting party president and Nickson Chilangwa as acting secretary general, while Mwila resigned.

Sampa, whis Matero PF member of parliament, stated that a PF secretary general can be appointed by a current party president and not a former one, as it happened in the case of Chilangwa’s appointment.

“I therefore beseech you and implore your supervisory role by ensuring [that the] PF party proceeds to conduct the extraordinary party convention and elect its leaders as provided for under the PF party constitution,” Sampa stated.

“I demand that your reputable office must, within seven days of receipt of this letter, move [in] to cause elections to be held in the PF party for the vacant office of president and all members of the central committee as enshrined in the PF party constitution.”

Sampa added that if the Registrar of Societies fails to compel the PF to hold the extraordinary general conference, he will commence legal actions against it, as it will have failed to play its supervisory role. under the societies Act.
