ZAMBIA National Service (ZNS) is determined to pursue robust, Government- supported programmes that will significantly help create notable job opportunities especially for the youth.
Deputy ZNS Commander and Chief of Staff Major General Reuben Mwewa said this at a dinner hosted in honor of the Malawian National Service delegation on Friday at Chamba Valley in Lusaka.
He disclosed that ZNS was repositioning some of its production ventures to make them more viable and productive while at the same time working to operationalise the seven private companies the establishment is adding to its investment portfolio to be run by exclusively civilian experts.
“Today, we are even much more resolved to continue raising our contribution to social economic development of our country. We are equally resolute in our four pillar strategic plan that we shall be a developmental tool of choice for our Government,” Maj Gen Mwewa said.
He said the Service was humbled by the fact that the Malawian Defence Force has continued to regard ZNS as one of the foremost benchmarking institutions to help boost its establishment’s productivity.
Maj Gen Mwewa said the Service is ready and willing to share best practices that will be beneficial to the building of a developmental oriented Defence Force in Malawi.
He further called for closer collaboration between the two Defense Forces in a bid to turn the two institutions into production hubs and construction centres that should gravitate Zambia and Malawi into economic power houses of the region.
And Malawi National Service Acting Commander Brigadier General John Chikhulupiliro Chaika commended ZNS for the numerous developmental programmes it is implementing in areas such as agriculture, infrastructure, as well as the enhancement of food security.
He said Malawi National Service will endeavor to emulate some of the best practices being pursued by ZNS in order to enhance its operations.
“We will be sending our officers here to have hands-on experience in wheat farming, but before that we are requesting ZNS to send officers to Malawi to mentor us until we are firmly on our feet,” Brig Gen Chaika said.
He said MNS was interested in wheat farming and will be soon sending its personnel to Zambia to come and tap into the knowledge on how best to grow the crop.
Brig Gen Chaika said he is optimistic that ZNS will not just help Malawi to revamp the growing of wheat but will also run the venture as a bussiness.
The seven-member delegation was in the country from 5 February to 11 February, 2023 to benchmark some of the production activities of ZNS.
They left for their country on Sunday after successfully completing the tour led by the ZNS Chief of Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock, Brigadier General Mutandalike Choonga.
Units toured were ZNS Airport Farms in Lusaka, Chisamba field crop and livestock as well as Monze industrial Milling Plant.

Today, I went to the beach with my children. I found a
sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell to her ear and screamed.
There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.
