17 women are among the 38 people who have been arrested for encroaching on military land that is located in Kashitu area of Kapiri-Mposhi district.

The 38 are being charged for criminally trespassing on 42 Zambia Army battle training area.

It is reported that the group made themselves feel at home on the said piece of land and started squatting and cutting down trees.

Zambia Police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale told Kalemba in a statement that the 38 people were picked up yesterday around 09:00 hours and are currently in police custody.

Mwale cautioned the public, especially those squatting or have encroached on military land, to re-locate as they will be putting their lives in jeopardy.

“Traditional leaders should re-locate their people to other designated areas far from military training areas as it will be dangerous for civilians to co-exist with trainees,” stated Mwale.
