THE Anti- Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested former mine superintendent at Mopani Copper Mine in Mufulira, Millan Nkandu for corrupt practices involving K10,000.00.
According to the statement issued by head of corporate communications Timothy Moono, Nkandu, 39, of house No.12 Mununga Road Kanseshi in Ndola, has been charged with one count of Corrupt Transactions with the Private Body contrary to section 20(2) as read with section 41 of the Anti-Corruption Act No.3 of 2012 of the laws of Zambia.
“Details are that Millan Nkandu on a date unknown but between 1st September, 2019 and 19th September, 2019 in Mufulira District of the Copperbelt Province of the Republic of Zambia, being a Private Person, did corruptly offer and
actually gave K10,000.00 cash gratification to Reuben Mbewe, the Security, Risk and Quality Manager at Mopani Copper Mines plc in Mufulira as an inducement for him to help Mr. Nkandu to secure his job after being suspended from work on
allegations of soliciting bribes from suppliers or contractors who had been awarded contracts as the Mufulira smelters. A matter or transaction that relates to Mopani copper mines plc, a private body.”
Moono stated Nkandu has since been released on bond and would appear in court soon.
