THE criminal career of a 29 year old youth of Lusaka’s Kaunda Square has ended prematurely, two days after he launched it with the theft of a vehicle.

Police pounced on Kennedy Ng’ona, 29, and his 40 year accomplice in Chibolya compound while they tried to sell a Toyota Noah which was stolen from Lusaka’s Water Falls mall.

It took barely 24 hours for the police to apprehend Banda and his Bemba traditional cousin Ng’ona of Kaunda Square Stage Two, a car wash attendant at Waterfalls Shopping Mall.

According to police, the duo were on the verge of selling the vehicle yesterday in the notorious crime den of Chibolya compound before they were caught.

It was earlier reported that Mwelwa Mukosha left his vehicle with the car wash attendant identified as Ng’ona, with a view of picking it later after work.

However, Mukosha was shocked to discover that his car was skidded off from the premises, by Ng’ona almost immediately after he left it for a thorough cleaning at the car wash on January 3 this year.

However, Ng’ona with his colleague Banda’s short-lived grand theft auto glory lasted for only 24 hours as their luck ran out and the police apprehended them.

According to police, the vehicle was involved in an accident prior to the apprehension of the duo who were ready to make easy money to sustain them during the so-called three months of January.

“The two suspects are detained in police custody,” Police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale told Kalemba through a statement.
