A man in Lusaka’ Chaisa Compound decided to take his life after his ex- wife allegedly pressured him to provide school fees for their only child who qualified to senior secondary school after passing grade nine examinations.

The deceased identified as Peter Zulu aged 47 years committed suicide yesterday between 01:00 hours to 05:00 hours.

Police preliminary investigations indicate that on January 1, 2023, the deceased was seen among his friends celebrating the New Year at one of the bars in Chaisa Compound where some people heard him complaining about his former wife giving him pressure of the child’s school fees.

Unfortunately that was the last time people saw Zulu alive as he was later found by hanging from the rooftop by his brother whom he shared the room with.

Zambia Police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale confirmed the incident and stated that Zulu was found hanging by the neck to a string.

Mwale said the body was later deposited at the University Teaching Hospitals mortuary awaiting postmortem.

“Police have opened an inquiry file into the matter,” Mwale added.
