A FIFTEEN-month toddler of Chongwe has died after falling in well as he trailed his mother around 05:00 hours yesterday.
It is reported that 28-year old Alice Tembo of Kakubo Village in Chongwe District got up and went to use the toilet outside leaving her son on the bed.
However, unknown to her, the child noticed that his mother had stepped out and decided to follow her.
It is while looking for his mother that the child fell in the nearby well and drowned.
Upon noticing the absence of her son on her return in the the house, Tembo mobilised a search party of neighbours who later discovered the child in the well.
Police assistant public relations officer Godfrey Chilabi has confirmed the drowning incident and identified the victim as Blessing Daka.
“Police officers rushed to the scene and with the help of the community managed to retrieve the child who was later pronounced dead upon arrival at Chongwe District,” revealed Chilabi in a statement to #Kalemba.
Chilabi said an inquiry file has since been opened in the matter.
