PARTY of National Unity and Progress (PNUP) president Highvie Hamududu says the government needs to speed up the process of input distribution to farmers across Zambia.
Â
There are currently complaints of a shambolic distribution format of farming inputs.
Â
Hamududu, an astute economist, and a former Bweengwa member of parliament (2006 to 2016), said the delay in the distribution of farming inputs under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) is such a disaster that must not be repeated in future.
Â
He added that even at this late hour, the government ought to summon its best mechanisms available to expedite the process.
Â
“Get the men and women in uniform to help out if the normal government systems are overwhelmed by the crisis,” Hamududu suggested.
Â
“As a country we are losing so much on opportunities of leveraging on our agricultural potential to fight unemployment, poverty and inequalities in a more precise and impactful manner.”
Â
The opposition leader noted that going foward, Zambians need a “big conversation” on the current agricultural policies and support mechanisms.
Â
“There are definitely better alternatives!” said Hamududu.
