LUSAKA deputy mayor Ketty Nanyangwe has threatened to terminate a contract and take legal action against the contractor engaged to do the drainage and other sanitation works in Silwizya ward of Lusaka Central Constituency.

Due to poor workmanship by the contractor, pillars are reported to be collapsing even before the said works are completed.

Speaking when she made an impromptu visit to the affected area today, Nanyangwe, who is Silwizya ward UPND councillor, complained against the work culture of the contractor, especially that rains have intensified.

She told the contractor that the lives of the residents are at risk, hence the need for the contractor to urgently do the right thing.

Nanyangwe said the unwarranted tendency of the contractor to postpone works is unacceptable and that it would not be tolerated by the Lusaka City Council, that is focused on creating a conducive environment for people.

The contractor promised to make headways with the works by tomorrow.

Residents of Silwizya ward are enduring poor sanitation, especially with the onset of the rains.
