ITEZHI -TEZHI Magistrates’ Court has convicted and sentenced a 29-year-old Itezhi-Tezhi fisherman to 18 months for trafficking in nine balls of marijuana.
Â
Gift Kanjamba of Samundego area in Itezhi -Tezhi district in Southern Province stepped out of the water like ‘Simon Peter’ abandoning his normal trade and went ‘fishing’ for high grade vegetables.
Â
Kanjamba was caught with marijuana, a herbal product of cannabis sativa with a total weight of 1.34 kilograms, without lawful authority on August 21, 2022, in Samundego.
Â
He was was then apprehended by police, who later handed the case over to Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC), and took the vegetable matter in his custody for testing.
Â
After conducting the tests, the results revealed that Kanjamba’s vegetables were not the ordinary ones that people are accustomed to eating alongside a sumptuous red grilled meat meal.
Â
However, the ‘greens’ were discovered to be cannabis.
Â
And when a DEC officer interviewed the accused in connection to the nine balls of vegetable matter found in a red bag, he failed to justify himself.
Â
Kanjamba was later charged with trafficking in psychotropic substances in violation of section 15 of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act No. 35 of 2021 of the Zambian Laws.
Â
When the case came before Itezhi -Tezhi magistrate Mugala Chalwe for a plea, Kanjamba readily admitted the charge and the court entered a guilty plea.
Â
ZANIS reports the state prosecutor Sydney Lungu told court that Kanjamba had no legal justification to traffic in psychotropic substances.
Â
And In mitigation Kanjamba asked for maximum leniency, saying that he was looking after a large family that entirely depended on him and that giving him a custodial sentence would make his family suffer.
Â
Magistrates Chalwe said she took into consideration all what he said in mitigation but went ahead to condemn the fisher of drugs to an 18 month ‘vacation’ of correction in jail, which will be in effect from August 21, 2022 when he was arrested.

Today, I went to the beach with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter
and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to her
ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched
her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is totally
off topic but I had to tell someone!
Hi, I do think this is an excellent website.

The other day, while I was at work, my cousin stole my iPad and tested to see if it can survive a thirty foot drop,
just so she can be a youtube sensation. My iPad is now destroyed and she has 83 views.
I know this is totally off topic but I had
to share it with someone!
