STANBIC Bank Zambia Limited says it wants to establish an innovator hub in Zambia next year.
The Bank says its medium-term goal is to incubate and accelerate innovators, both internally and externally, by having a fully operational incubator hub in the country next year.
The bank has this year partnered with AfriLabs, a pan-African community of tech hubs, to sponsor the 2022 AfriLabs annual gathering set to take place at the picturesque Ciêla Resort Bonanza in Lusaka for the first time.
The annual gathering brings together Africa’s best tech hubs to network, learn and share knowledge.
This year’s gathering, which opened yesterday and runs up to tomorrow, will see several African tech hubs at the Ciêla’s Lusaka International Convention Centre where tech hubs within the AfriLabs network and other stakeholders of the African technology and innovation ecosystem, like corporates and investors are expected to convene, network, learn and share knowledge.
Commenting on Stanbic’s participation at this year’s gathering, Stanbic head of brand and marketing, Eric Ngondo, said Stanbic was proud to sponsor this year’s event, as the bank aims to be a future-ready platform business by 2025 in its quest to digitally transform.
“Stanbic Bank’s aim is to be a future-ready, platform business by 2025. And as we digitally transform, innovation will become a key foundation. Our short-term goal is to drive innovation from within and nurture an innovative culture,” Ngondo stated.
“Our medium-term goal is to incubate and accelerate innovators, both internally and externally, by having a fully operational incubator hub next year,”
The Bank added that AfriLabs is a consortium of African innovation/incubation hubs and that its intent is to become a member.
“This will allow us to tap into the entire African innovation ecosystem as we participate in this area.” he said.
For AfriLabs Board chairperson, Moetaz Helmy, this year’s gathering focuses on the innate ability of Africa to build Africa.
“We want to look inward and interrogate how we can scale the innovation economy regionally and across the continent. We want to explore ways we can improve innovation support and tackle our well-known challenges,” said Helmy.
