POLICE in Chama District of Eastern Province have arrested a loafing nurse who for online fame resorted to scandalise his former lecturer on Facebook.
While most colleges wish their former students to bring pride to their brand after graduation, Makeni School of Nursing and Health Sciences has had its name dragged in sewer filth by its ex-learner.
Using his face Facebook page, ‘Volunteers Association of Zambia’, 23-year old Mekelani Lungu aged 23 of ZESCO compound in Chama District published a defamatory post on August 31, accussing a senior lecturer of the institution of impregnating one of the students at the learning facility.
Lungu’s wish to amass Facebook likes came to pass as his post was widely circulated on various online media platforms bringing the name of the higher learning institution to the gutter. But as the old adage goes ‘be careful of waht you wish for or you just might get it’ came to bit his slanderous fingers, used to post the defamatory content.
After the post Lungu was reported to Chelstone Police Station in Lusaka for libel by Milimo Sweta, on behalf of Makeni School of Nursing and Health Science on the Thursday September 1, 2022. Police immediately instituted investigations which led to Lungu’s apprehension.
When interviewed and interrogated the online champion’s strength withered at the site of the men green uniform and his mouth started running like water from a tap extensively opened to confess originating the defamatory post on facebook.
With a sad demeanor, and a posture of the soaked cat, Lungu revealed that the post was false as he only originated it to gain more followers on Facebook considering the popularity of the school.
Zambia Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said in a statement released to #Kalemba that investigations were done and Lungu was formally charged for Libel contrary to section 191 of the Penal Code Act Chapter 87 of the laws of Zambia.
Hamoonga further stated that the devices used to publish the post were recovered and seized under the seizure of goods under section 121 (1) of the criminal Procedure Code Chapter 88 of the laws of Zambia.
Lungu has since been released on police bond and will be awaiting his court appearance soon.
