THE National Democratic Congress has informed the Electoral Commission of Zambia that it will not field any candidates in the forthcoming Kabushi and Kwacha by-elections.
In a letter dated August 23, addressed to ECZ Chief Electoral Officer, NDC Deputy Secretary General Administration Joseph Kasonde stated that his party will instead support candidates that will be adopted by the UPND Alliance Secretariat.
The NDC is a member of the alliance.
Kasonde stated that no one should file in nomination papers on the NDC ticket or possess an adoption certificate as such an action would be “tantamount to forgery”.
“Your office may wish to know that with impunity there are some NDC masqueraders in the name of Chishimba Kambwili, Saboi Imboela, Charles Kabwita, a Mr Kaonga and others. There are some NDC masqueraders who are before the courts as contemnors having disregarded a court injunction that was granted to us in the Ndola High Court and was served on these contemnors,” Kasonde said.
Further, Kasonde stated that the “masqueraders” once attempted to fraudulently change the names of the party’s office bearers at the Registrar of Societies.
He recalled that Kambwili and his accomplices plan to change office bearers was denied and they were advised accordingly.
Kasonde added that the manoeuvre was reported to police on March 24, 2021.
