VICE-PRESIDENT Mutale Nalumango has urged traders at Kapalala market in Ndola to be strong and not give up following the inferno that swept through the trading area on Tuesday night.

Speaking when she toured both the gutted site and New Kapalala market in Kabushi Township, Vice President Nalumango encouraged traders not to remain discouraged owing to the inferno.

The Vice-President who through the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) donated 25 Kg of mealie meal, 5Kg rice, 50 Kg bag of beans and K1,000 to each affected family said the government was eager to see sellers continue trading despite the damage caused by the fire.

“We are here to mourn with you. Mwimona ati ubuteko bwenu bwamilekelesha. Ubuteko bwenu nabuposako amano, Hakainde mwebena Masala, bwebena Kabushi alefwaya ukubomba echo mumwenene free education elo naba teacher nabafulilako (Do not think your government has let you down. Your government has paid attention to your suffering, Hakainde, people of Msala, people of Kabushi wants to work and work for you. That is why you have seen the introduction of free education and an increase in teachers through teacher recruitment ,” Vice President Nalumango said.

She said she was aware of the challenges the residents of Kabushi have been facing and promised that the New Dawn government was ready and keen to tackle them.

Vice President Nalumango who spoke in Bemba said government was aware that it was through the gutted merchandise that most families were earning a livelihood.

She said she came to Ndola to commiserate with the affected families.

“I have come here to bring a bit of relief, akakwafwilisha patushiku utunono while we work on how to settle the people that have been affected by this. We believe in the divine God, the living God, we believe in the power of God and the divine provision of the living God. Mumaka yakwa Lesa fyonse filapekanishiwa and that’s why we are saying it better traders move from this gutted market to the new one which has just been constructed but still unoccupied awaiting total completion,” she said.

Vice President Nalumango instructed traders to move to the new market so that they can have somewhere to trade from and fend for their families.

She said she was aware that the new market had a few challenges which needed to be sorted out before being occupied but insisted that because of the inferno the traders should move in immediately.

Earlier as she toured the newly constructed Kapalala market which was also gutted in 2019, Vice President Nalumango said the water challenges would be addressed by the DMMU.

She said DMMU will dig two boreholes to tackle the water reticulation which was one of the reasons traders had not moved in.

Vice President Nalumango also urged the Ministry of Local Government to add more boreholes whose works should commence by Monday.

Further, Vice President Nalumango urged the affected families to look to God as solutions to their plight were being addressed by the government.
