A CLOSE associate of Edgar Lungu has offered an explanation why the former Head of State is not part of the observer missions monitoring tomorrow’s presidential election in Kenya.
Last October, PF chairperson for information and publicity Raphael Nakacinda announced that the African Union had chosen Lungu as its head of election observer mission in Kenya’s elections.
The news was celebrated by PF who said despite being voted out by Zambians, Lungu was still respected internationally.
But with Kenyan election due in less than 24 hours Lungu is nowhere near the East African country but holed up in his rented mansion in Lusaka’s Ibex Hill with no explanation.
At the height of the Kenyan campaigns, Lungu was captured planting trees in the Zambian capital city.
But with plenty of bundles to spare, Chilifya Tayali appointed himself Lungu’s spin doctor Chilufya Tayali and took to Facebook yesterday evening offering an explanation why Lungu is not in Kenya.
Tayali who also president of the PF-aligned EEP claimed Lungu declared interest because he was a close associate of Kenya’s outgoing President Uhuru Kenyanta and front runner William Ruto.
He said Lungu could not be part of the election because President Kenyanta was backing Ruto’s opponent Raila Odinga.
“So, President Lungu, out of principle, has excused himself to be part of the observers and he is praying for a peaceful election on Tuesday 9th August, 2022,” Tayali wrote.
