Free Press Initiative Founder Joan Chirwa has underscored the importance of ethics in the field of Journalism.
Chirwa said Journalism without ethics was of no value to the profession and the audience.
She was speaking during media ethics training workshop for online and traditional media Journalists organised by FPI in partnership with Media Freedom Committee MFC in Lusaka this morning.
Chirwa stated that the purpose of the training was to remind journalists to maintain and observe media ethics which were critical in the practice of journalism.
And Media Consultant Mthoniswa Banda said it was important to build professional media which would be able to provide solutions to society and report accurately.
Banda added that society has refused to pay for the value in the information provided by the media that was one of reasons the media is compromised in terms of reporting.
Meanwhile, Banda has advised journalists to be professional in their reporting refraining from being swayed by sources to write stories to please them.
He added that it was important to write information that served the interest of the society irrespective of who was involved.
