Chinsali man beats a headman to death on suspicion of bewitching his daughter

A MARE visit to see a relative in neighbouring town has turned out to be scene of horror for a headman as a man of Chinsali District, in Muchinga beat him to death on accusation that he bewitched his epileptic daughter.
 
ZANIS reports that Sekwila Mwila aged 42 of Chilasa village used a wooden stick to beat to death the deceased Shombe Sipanje, 82.
 
Fact of the matter are that Sipanje, a village headman for Mubaya Kapimpa in Chinsali crossed Lubu river to Chilasa Village to visit a relative on July 18, 2022.
 
However, upon reaching his destination, Sipanje found himself in a commotion where he was accused of being a wizard.
 
Sekwila Mwila acused the visiting headman of bewitching his 16-year-old daughter, Blessings Mwila who suffers from epilepsy.
 
And at around 14:00 hours whilst Sipanje was at the house of Nebert Kampamba, Mwila came armed with a wooden stick and started beating him mercilessly until the stick broke on him till Sipanje fell down and died.
 
After the the incident, one of the Chilasa village residents reported the case to the Chinsali Central Police Station via a call on July 18, 2022 at 16:20 hours.
 
Following the report, the police visited the crime scene and found the body of the deceased lying lifeless besides a broken wooden stick, allegedly used in the act.
 
Muchinga Deputy Police Commanding Officer Lucky Munkondya confirmed the incident stating that the accused, Mwila has since been arrested.
 
Munkondya highlighted that physical inspection showed the deceased had a broken left hand, a cut on the left hand, multiple cuts on left side of the face, a swollen head and blood oozing from the mouth.
 
Munkondya added that the body was later picked from the crime scene and deposited in the Mortuary at Chinsali District Hospital awaiting post-mortem examination.
