FORMER first Lady Esther Lungu has finally broken the silence and declared the 15 flats that were seized by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) in Lusaka’s State Lodge area as hers.

On Friday July 1, the Drug Enforcement Commission DEC repossessed the said properties alleging that they were proceeds of crime.

The commission revealed that the properties belonged to a woman named Esther Nyawa Tembo whom they failed to identify.

However, a video making rounds on social media clearly revealed that the former first lady bared the exact name as the owner of the properties when she was called out during a recently held University of Zambia graduation ceremony.

In a letter of demand to DEC’s Director General, Mary Chirwa, Esther through her lawyer Makebi Zulu says the said properties have been there since the time she acquired them in about seven years.

Esther disclosed in the same letter that, if DEC had diligently executed their work through a thorough check with the Ministry of Lands, they would have known the owner of the 15 flats.

Therefore, she has ordered for the commission to vacate the premises of her properties as they are trespassing.

Esther said the continued stay of DEC officers at her flats constitutes a continuing trespass.
