LUSAKA Province permanent secretary Elias Kamanga says 97 trees will be planted at Heroes Stadium in Lusaka, in honour of Dr Kenneth Kaunda.
Dr Kaunda died at Maina Soko Medical Centre in Lusaka on June 17 this year. He was aged 97.
Kamanga says the 97 trees will symbolise the years Dr Kaunda lived and the first Republican President’s passion for forestry.
“As Lusaka Province, we’ll be planting 97 symbolic trees. These will be planted in recognition of the 97 years that God was able to bless our founding father with,” said Kamanga.
“So, we’ll remember each one of those 97 years by planting a tree so that Dr Kaunda’s life and soul will not completely die. Yes, physically he will not be with us….”
