TWO police officers in Muchinga Province have sustained injuries after political party cadres delivered a violent version of the door-to-door to campaign right at the door step of Nakonde Police Station.

The officers got caught up in the violent clash that pitted PF and UPND cadres at Ikumbi Taxi Rank in Nakonde earlier today.

The two political rival groups met in the ongoing door-to-door campaigns ahead of the August 12 vote and immediately began to converse in the language mostly spoken and understood by Zambian political party cadres using fists, knuckles, catapults, pangas and round kicks.

Their aim was to inject their respective political party maifestos directly in the blood streams of their political opponents but without anesthesia and World Health Organisation-approved surgical tools, the battle proved all too painful for PF cadres.

After being out-stoned, kicked punched and insulted, three bloodied PF cadres who had been abandoned in battle by colleagues used the little energy left in them to sprint to Nakonde Police Station wailing in pain and on top of their voices.

On arrival at Nakonde Police Station, the three PF cadres namely Elisha Simumba aged 31, Kenny Sikaonga aged 36 and Isaac Sinkala were shocked that UPND cadres had pursued them for further campaigns.

But to the relief of the PF cardes, officers saved them by apprehending and detaining their tormentors who included; local government candidate for Old Fife Ward Jackson Chomba aged 40 along with Adam Chimfwembe and Aaron Sichimata 19 all of Ntindi Village.

Back on the streets, after hearing that their colleagues had been detained, UPND cadres mobilized themselves and went to Nakonde Police Station to break them out of the cells.

The group of UPND cadres armed with catapults, stones and sticks arrived at Nakonde Police Station where they found officers recording the painful testimonies of the assaulted PF cadres.

“The unruly mob of UPND Cadres armed with Catapults, stones and sticks stormed the police front office and attacked Police Officers and in the process of dispersing this unruly crowd, two police officers sustained injuries,” Police Spokesperson Esther Mwaata Katongo told Kalemba in a statement.

“Also a Toyota Vitz unregistered which was parked at the Police Station, property of one of the police officers was damaged , a stone was used in the act,” Katongo added.

During the fracas which degenerated into full-blown clash between UPND cadres and Police officers, terrified PF Cadres who had already gotten their share of beating earlier hid under police tables as stones rained on the station.

In the end, police brought the situation under control arresting seven more UPND cadres who are now detained with their three colleagues they had gone to rescue.

“We are warning political cadres to desist from attacking police officers and taking their politics to police stations as that will not be taken lightly. Anyone that will disregard the provisions of the law shall be dealt with accordingly,” warned Katongo.
