ZAMBIA’S ambassador to Ethiopia Emmanuel Mwamba says Zambians are lucky to have “very low price” mealie meal prices.
In a Facebook posting comparing the prices of a 25 kilogram bag mealie meal of South Africa and Zambia, the rainbow nation’s prices way higher than that Zambia.
According to Mwamba a 25 kilogram of mealie meal in South Africa is fetching at ZAR230 equivalent to K376.90.
In Zambia, a 25, kilogram is fetching between K130 to K140.
“We are lucky that as Zambia, being a maize grower and exporting country, has maintained the price of mealie-meal at a very low price,” Mwamba wrote.
“Our small-scale farmers, who produce this maize require more support that we can feed the region and bring required income at their farm gate,” Mwamba added before inviting a discussion on the matter.
