ZAMBIA’S oldest political party, United National Independence Party (UNIP), will not use social media to canvass for votes, but traditional methods like door-to-door lobbying.

Speaking after the party successfully verified details of its presidential supporters, UNIP Ndola district chairperson Christopher Tembo said the party has no challenges mobilising voters without the use of social platforms.

He said the party, which governed Zambia for 27 years, will not hinge on social podiums to mobilise voters ahead of the elections because it believes ‘old is gold’.

“We campaign in line with what the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) wants, but we will not use social media or online things [platforms]. We are an old party.

“For us, it is ward-to-ward and door-to-door campaigns. We don’t want to use this social media or whatever online thing you are talking about,” he said.

Mr Tembo said the party is confident of winning the general elections because many Zambians appreciate the works it did during its reign.
