A 47-YEAR-OLD District Education Standard Officer of Mulobzi has died along with his two sons after a canoe they were sailing on capsized and spilled them in a dam.
Jimmy Walubita Simandu along with his two sons aged 16 and 13 respectively drowned in Kanyimba Dam on Sunday.
Mulobezi Council public relations officer Elvis Muleya confirmed the accident and subsequent death of Simandu and his two sons, Lishoma and Mubita.
Muleya explained that Simandu and his family was coming from a picnic when the accident happened.
After the accident, a combined team of officers from Zambia Police and the Department of National Parks and Wildlife embarked on the search of the deceased on the same day but only managed to retrieve the youngest son who was later pronounced dead upon arrival at Sichili Hospital.
Muleya said the team later managed to find the other two bodies today which have since been deposited at Sichili Mission Hospital Mortuary.
“This follows over 24 Hours of searching for Simaundu who drowned in Kanyimba Dam on Sunday along with his two sons when their Canoe capsized in full view of his helpless wife. Their remains have since been deposited at Sichili Mission Hospital Mortuary,” said Muleya.
