Rashida Mulenga: a female Mayor on a mission

AT 36, KALULUSHI Mayor Rashida Mulenga is one of the youngest Mayors in Zambia.

She has been an active member of the ruling Patriotic Front since 2011.

She was inspired to joined politics by late President Michael Sata.

Mulenga leads a male dominated council of 22 councilors in Kalulushi with only two female councilors; Febby Mulenga Simwanza of Lulamba ward and Maureen Mwape of Lukoshi ward.

“I am determined to leave Kalulushi better than l found it because am equal to the task and ready to face hurdles head on especially on land management,” Mulenga was recently quoted by as a Zambia newspaper.

Politics being male dominated career, Mulenga believes women thrive if they remain firm, strong minded and undistracted by their attractive faces.

Aside of politics, the Mayor of Kalulushi is a mother and a wife.

Married to prominent Copperbelt businessman Godfrey Kangwa, who is popularly known as Shi Mumbi and blessed with seven children.

She currently hold a Bacholers Degree in Business Administration.

She started school at Rhodes Park School in Lusaka and her Grade eight at Kabulonga Girls before she move to the Copperbelt where she did her Grade nine and 12 at Helen Kaunda Secondary School in Kitwe.
