Kaoma man joins mob in mistakenly killing his uncle accused of being a gasser

A MAN of Kaoma District in Western Province on Friday night joined a mob in beating to death a 54-year-old man they suspected to be gasser only to realize afterwards that the victim was his uncle.

Police rescued Cliford Nosiku in an unconscious state but sustained multiple injuries on the head and the face after a mob beat him with sticks and stones.

Esther Mwaata Katongo, the Zambia Police spokesperson said Nosiku was rushed to the hospital where he died later.

She said eight people including Nosiku’s nephew, Sitwala Namate have been arrested in connection to the murder.

“In Kaoma, Police have arrested eight people in connection with the murder of Cliford Nosiku aged 54 in a mob justice. Among the suspects arrested is a nephew of the deceased who at the time the mob descended on the victim, did not know that it was his uncle involved,” stated Katongo without naming the suspects.

Katongo identified the other suspects as Kazhila Mutondo Clearance, Kaingu Sikasiye, Mushiba Mushoke, John Mukamba, Felix Mwinga, Moris Mubiana Mukelebai and Paul Misheki Katongo.
