Prisoners will vote in 2021 elections – ECZ

PRISONERS will vote in 2021 general elections the Electoral of Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has announced.

ECZ chief electoral officer Patrick Nshindano said at a media briefing in Lusaka on Friday that following the case of Godfrey Malembeka of Prison Care and Counseling Association (PRISCA) Vs Attorney General and ECZ in which the court held that prisoners rights to vote should be upheld, the commission would allow the inmates to vote in the 2021 general elections.

He said the commission was working on ways and means to facilitate the inmates’ voting.

Nshindano said the commission was engaging various government institutions.

“Following the case of Godfrey Malembeka (Prison Care and Counseling Association – PRISCA) Vs Attorney General and ECZ in which the court held that prisoners right to vote should be upheld, the commission in fulfilling this ruling intends to undertake Prisoners Voting for 2021 general elections,” said Nshindano.
