TWO mothers, along with a daughter each, have drowned and died on Lake Mweru.
The two women and their children were part of 12 passengers who were aboard a canoe on Lake Mweru in Nchelenge District that capsised due to strong wind and waves on Thursday afternoon.
According to Zambia Police spokesperson Esther Mwata Katongo who confirmed the incident, the canoe was coming from Isokwe Island, heading to the main land at Bulaya village for business.
Katongo identified the dead as 30-year-old Mervis Kabungo and her four-month-old daughter Bridget Kabaso.
Susan Mulenga aged 27 and her 20-months-old daughter Silvia Ngoi
are the other victims.
“Two bodies of Susan Mulenga and her daughter female juvenile Silvia Ngoi have so far been retrieved while a search for the remaining bodies is still on,” Katongo revealed.
Katongo said the passengers survived after being rescued by some fishermen.
