A DEDICATED health worker and father of two of Chitambo District Hospital has allegedly been killed by his friends whom he was chilling with at Chitambo Gold Mine Camp.
The incident happened just a day after Central Province Minister Mwabashike Nkulukusa warned residents from killing each other at the mine.
Nkulukusa had warned that he did not want to hear reports of murder or any other crimes coming from the site as Government was not going to take it lightly.
Contrary to the minister’s address, Police preliminary investigations revealed that Brian Nkhata, 33, a pharmacist at the district hospital was brutally murdered by his five friends after a fight ensued among themselves while they were at the illegal Gold camp mine.
Following the fight, Nkhata’s buddies disappeared from obvious sight, only to be seen after the body was discovered.
It is reported that the body of the deceased was later found floating in a stream after days of the associates missing.
According to authorities the deceased was thrown in the stream to make it look like he had taken his own life.
Central Province Commissioner Charity Munganga told Kalemba that the five musketeers have been arrested and identified as teachers of the same district.
“This person was in the company of his friends and in the process a fight ensued among them. The following day, they were nowhere to be seen and on Sunday, September 1, he was found in a stream.”
“We have arrested the five and the deceased was found with a cut on the forehead which indicates that he was murdered,” revealed Munganga.
The names of those apprehended are yet to be availed as investigations continue.
Munganga said the body is at Chitambo District Hospital awaiting postmortem.
