A PHARMACIST is calling on government to withdraw the syphilis test kits been distributed in health facilities countrywide.

Jerome Kanyika according to investigations conducted by pharmacists across the country, the test kits are showing positive results even for people that are negative.

He says people that are testing positive while they are negative are then being asked to start taking antibacterial which may result in antimicrobial resistance which in turn reduces the effectiveness of proven treatment for Sexually Transmitted Diseases.

Kanyika notes that as the country commemorate antimicrobial resistance awareness this week, government should immediately withdraw the syphilis test kits.

Efforts to get the Ministry of Health spokesperson, Abel Kabalo and Permanent Secretary, Dr. Kennedy Malama failed as their mobile phones went unanswered.
