A MALE nurse in Nchelenge, Luapula is looking towards a bright future for his family after experiencing different types of rocks life threw at him which he literally later used as steps to stand on.
Born to blind parents Samuel Kapaya, a registered nurse has defied the odds and emerged as a beacon of hope and the only vision of his parents despite facing challenges to accomplish his dreams of being a nurse.
With a flickering future, Kapaya had no indication of whether there was going to be a consistent light in terms of his education because his parents could not support him.
But a breakthrough came through NGOs and government initiatives like the Zambia Agency for Persons with Disabilities (ZAPD) and the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) making it possible for him to attain his education.
Sadly, as he was about to conclude his studies at Mansa School of Nursing, his father died in 2021 leaving him as a sole provider for his mother.
After school he has been juggling between volunteering and taking care of his mother.
Kapaya started his volunteering journey at Nchelenge District Hospital and later at St. Paul’s Mission Hospital.
However, the lack of a stable income posed as a significant challenge for Kapaya whose primary concern is providing for his mother.
The nurse has appealed to relevant authorities and stakeholders to consider him for a nursing position which will enable him to secure a future for both himself and his mother.
“I am eager to contribute my skills and experience to the healthcare sector, while also being able to support my mother,” said Kapaya.
