IT is in the Zambian pseudo tradition to assume that whenever an artiste, especially the legends of our time disappear on the music scene, then they have run out of ideas or talent.
Instead of appreciating the old time music they gave us, we often fail to recognise them as timeless legends.
This is what General Ozzy experienced after going quiet for years.
But the General wants that mindset changed as he talks about how artistes also get to have a personal life outside the music.
He said there is need for the Zambian community to look at legends as legends even when they stop giving out the music they are known for.
In his case, Ozzy said the industry has evolved and the fans should not always expect the same type of music and energy as of the past stating that he hasn’t run out of ideas but has more things running in his life.
To prove this, General Ozzy has been quite consistent in releasing hit songs from time to time.
“I think people that say that banasila are intimidated by your work. So after finding out that there was a lot of barking I said you know what, the barking was too much, I decided to release “don’t give up on your general,” said Ozzy.
The song speaks to Ozzy’s fans where he urges them not to give up on him or his music reminding them that he is still the Ozzy they liked, years back.
General Ozzy also appreciated the impact that radio has had on his career stating that nothing will ever surpass radio when it comes to accessibility and availability.
“Radio gets to a place where a phone, internet can’t reach. Radio is the ish and it helped my career big time. In the evolution of Zambian music, I appreciate radio because it helped me grow,” said Ozzy.
He further advised the upcoming artistes to still pay attention to radio for their growth.
