IT was a breath of fresh air listening to the newly elected Media Owners Association of Zambia leadership conveying their thoughts on the general operations of the fraternity and the sector.

They highlighted many issues among them the existing media law reform challenges, business environment and toxic journalism landscape especially of ‘Blarizo’ among practitioners/journalists/reporters.

Admittedly, the Costa Mwansa led administration in its three-year-tenure will have to decisively tackle and deal with these issues with a sober mind.

Truth be told, personally, l have always considered the grouping more of an elitist club that has not fully represented the many existing broadcasting institutions.

I am optimistic that the new leadership will open up rather than remain in its current form where it has existed like a secret cult.

The case in point is the transitioning of some television stations from Topstar to DSTV , allegedly seeking more wider and better business prospects.

I thought the leaders in MOAZ should have facilitated for a win – win situation ensuring that the needs of their general membership regardless of their licenses either be religious or church is well taken care of. Ironically, some channels just abandoned certain platforms in amazement.

On the advertising space, as much as they demand professionalism in the journalism sector, no one talks and addresses the hidden dark secrets behind this sector. Others within the membership of these media organizations have been sole crafters of the demise of their colleagues through (UN)ethnical business practices in the background.

For instance, many of us in the sector, have been advocates of a minimum wage. Obviously, it will be prudent to facilitate an agreed and acceptable rate card to govern the sector otherwise three years of my brother’s reign will be otherwise.

In successive years, No one has been bold enough to confront this topic and l am again however, optimistic that Mr. Mwansa will open up to this topic and offer leadership.

On the issue of media ethnics, l have laboured to explain what expectations are but for the sake of the Mwansa led administration and in case it was missed l will deliver it once more. You rightly condemned ‘Blarizo’ yet the culprits are media owners.

This is the reason why media owners should never be part and parcel for the push for media regulation because outrightly the majority have terribly failed to create a decent working environment, a matter that past immediate Minister of Information and Media, Chushi Kasanda ably guided in her issued statement of 16th May, 2023.

“Further the new dawn government recognises the distinction between media houses and journalism profession. Consequently, the government endorses the establishment of a professional body by journalists themselves, without undue interference from operators of media houses or any section of society.” said Ms. Kasanda.

This is none of your business because yours is to decently pay the journalists for their sweat. We also hope that while you settle down, an introspection is conducted on the distinctions because some of your members who have taken the roles of journalists by appearing especially at State House functions, as practitioners. You are competing for bylines and awards with your journalists. Laughable indeed! In short the young journalists are complaining.

Additionally, there have been reports of some of your members arm twisting the state on issues of tax obligations by refusing to pay, l am further optimistic that your administration will not abuse the good will put in place by President Hakainde Hichilema for the media to operate freely.

I further hope that your organization will stand by either you or its members considering the isolation of Gerald shawa and subsequent, closure of Prime Television previously, for merely advocating what the state owned media owners at the height of Covid – 19 wanted. That development still haunts me to this day.

And finally, like always politicians will not take advantage of your time at the pinnacle of the organization to enhance their ambitions because yours is a service to the media owners for a long lasting legacy.

Congratulations once again

These kinds of protective gear are model targeted since they are made to fit perfectly within the natural housing. You can buy these directly from the vendor, or via third party sources if they are available for your laptop computer, however only a few laptop may have a covering on the market.
