AFTER preparing content to share online, review the content. If you are not sure about the tone of content you want to share to social media, share it with a trusted person to have a look and get their opinion before sharing to social media spaces.

What shall be the consequences of sharing hate speech content online?

In the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes bill 2021 on Part IX, Section 65, on Hate Speech, says; “A person who, using a computer system, knowingly without lawful excuse, uses hate speech commits an offence and is liable, on conviction, to a fine not exceeding five hundred thousand penalty units or to imprisonment for a period not exceeding two years, or to both.”

The bill encourages self-censorship all the way. So weather you are sharing text, videos, pictures, cartoons, animations and audio content self-censorship is important.

In an election year, it is common to see hate speech online. Hate speech is undesirable content stay away from it.
