A LUSAKA based social and political commentator has called on Zambians to demand accountability from political leaders who are fond of manipulating the public to escape justice even when they commit serious crimes.
Dillon Mayangwa expressed concern over what he described as the unfair application of the law where ordinary citizens face harsh punishments for minor offences while politicians often evade consequences for more serious crimes.
Mayangwa said it is wrong that ordinary people can be jailed for small things like loitering while politicians who commit serious crimes are treated as if they are innocent.
He said many politicians act like they are above the law and try to use the public to defend them, even when they are clearly in the wrong.
He said the entitlement displayed by some politicians is a growing concern that should be addressed by all citizens.
Mayangwa urged citizens to stop allowing themselves to be used as pawns in political games that do not benefit them.
He also pointed out that when politicians are in trouble, they often come together to protect each other instead of speaking out for the people.
According to him, no politician has even openly spoken against serious issues like rape and defilement that continue to engulf the country.
Mayangwa warned that Zambians must stop allowing themselves to be used for things that do not help them.
He further said leaders should be treated the same as everyone else when they break the law and that citizens must stand up and speak out when things were not right.
“Politicians feel so much entitled such that even when they commit a crime they want to manipulate Zambians into advocating for their freedom. There are people that die in the cells just for loitering around. Politicians are not special, when they break the law, they should face it. No politician has ever spoken against defilement and rape.”
“According to the elite, prison is not for them. When they commit massive crimes, they want to look innocent. Zambians must rise to stand up for themselves because politicians are not for them. They gang up to protect themselves when they commit crimes and only preotct their own. You Zambians are on your own. Ordinary Zambians should refuse to be used in things that don’t even benefit them,” he warned.
