NASBC leaders in court for looting K139, 000 meant for workshops

FORMER president of the National Association of Small and Medium Contractors Edward Mpepo and the former Genera Secretary of the said institution, Danny Simumba have denied embezzling 139, 000 which was funded by the National Road Fund Agency for seminars.

Mpepo 59, a contractor of Lusaka West and Simumba 51, a businessman of Kitwe’s Nkana East are facing seven charges of theft by agent and uttering a false document.

Appearing before the Economic and Financial Crimes Court the duo pleaded not guilty to the charges before principal resident magistrate Sylvia Munyinya.

It is alleged in count one to six that Mpepo and Simumba whilst acting together between June 1, 2018 and June 30, 2018, as president and general secretary for National Association of Medium and Small-Scale Contractors stole K139, 000 intended for workshops, benchmarking studies and feasibility studies by which funds were derived from the National Road Fund Agency a public body.

In count seven it is alleged that Simumba between June 1, 2018 and June 30, 2018, being the general secretary for National Association of Medium and Small-Scale Contractors knowingly and fraudulently uttered a fake receipt bearing invoice no.051 from Karl Human Capital Ltd, purporting that he received consultancy services for a business plan, when in fact not.
