…Making Your Life Count with Dr Humphrey Mutiti

ONE day a hunter came across a bear in the woods. The bear said to the hunter, “I want a full stomach.” The hunter responded, “I want a fur coat.”

“Let’s compromise,” suggested the bear, and then he ate the man. As a result, they both got what they wanted. The bear went away with a full stomach, and the man went away wrapped in fur.

That hunter learned the lesson of compromise. When deciding the lesser of two evils, choose neither.

In Deuteronomy 30:19 the Lord said to His people, “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:”

You and I have a preference. Every day we must choose between life and death. We should never settle for anything less. We should perpetually seek the best to win in every sphere of our lives. Every winner must have definite goals, and a burning desire to achieve their dream.

Every winner must have courage to pursue their dreams without fear or people’s affirmation. Refuse to compromise or be apologetic about your dreams. Never apologise for doing the right thing.

Go for your dream, fight for it and it will come to pass. It’s best to try and fail than not trying at all. A life spent trying to pursue your dream is better than the one not doing anything. It’s best to try to stand as an MP in the coming General election coming this August than not standing at all. It best to start that business than not starting at all.

God has called all of us for something greater. He has good plans for us, plans to prosper us and not harm us. We all have an assignment He wants us do here on earth. This the call to excellence, and not to mediocrity. If anything is worth doing, it is worth doing well. If you can’t do it with excellence, don’t bother.

If you cannot do without corruption, don’t bother. Zig Ziglar once said, “When you do the right things in the right way, you have nothing to lose because you have nothing to fear.” Someone asked, “If you don’t have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over?”

When people allow compromise in one area, it always leaks and begins to affect other areas. It also allows lies, deceit, and error to creep in and take over. I know some politicians who have turned from their first love to serve people. Their troubles started with compromises.

They lowered the bar of integrity. Some men of God compromised and they lost their ministry. They began to give in to little things, which soon became bigger things. It wasn’t long before compromise began to infiltrate their personal lives. Eventually it overtook and overwhelmed them and today there is nothing to write about them.

In Proverbs 4 the writer warns us: “Ponder the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established. Do not turn to the right or to the left; remove your foot from evil” (vv. 26-27 NKJV). Don’t allow compromise to creep in and destroy you. You can’t say, “Well, I’ll compromise in this one area, and everything else will be okay.” Once it has a foothold, compromise grows and spreads. What you compromise, you lose. Be a person of integrity.

In closing, guard your reputation, the reputation of your Government, and the reputation of Jesus Christ and His Church. If the only way others can tell that you’re a Christian is from the cross on your neck chain around your neck, do us all a favour and leave it off. Take a stand today against compromise. “A good name is rather to be chosen that great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.” Proverbs 22:1. Integrity is everything.
