Change Is Inevitable

LIFE is quite unpredictable and has its ups and downs. My thoughts are with the followers of Prophet TB Joshua who passed on to glory as I was writing this article. His works will surely follow him to the grave and yonder.

Although no one saw it coming, I wonder why humanity pretentiously refuses to talk about death and succession. On 10th July 2015, I penned a feature in the Zambia Daily Mail entitled, 10 out of 10 people die, to buttress the mortality of man.

Every person we look up to will one day succumb to death. What lessons can we learn from 10 out of 10? The first lesson is that hate him or love him, TB Joshua went around doing good. Although not perfect, through generosity, he tried to be on the side of humanity.

How many of us can claim to be good people? I’m not talking about religion but just being good! What footprints are we leaving on earth? Is humanity better off with our presence or absence? Look at the millions of people worldwide who are mourning TB Joshua! How many will mourn you?

Some of us have good riddance written all over our faces. People will celebrate our demise because we have been grossly unfair to our legacies. Most of us fail to walk the talk and are busy leading double lives. What hypocrisy! Being good to others is very basic and not too hard to achieve.  Having worked in both the civil service and the NGO sector, I have heard enough stories about professional mistreatment of staff. That is another story.

People forget that in life the only constant is change! The same people you are mistreating today might swap positions with you.  Just like you can’t stay stagnant, both your subordinates and superiors are and will never be immune. Life is a circle!

Over the past weeks, while ruminating about the inevitability of change, I realized that it also has its consequences. Change sometimes has neither winners nor losers. Most times it occurs continuously and unconsciously to the amazement of bystanders. My thoughts are that we need to prepare for and accept change. It is part of our lives. Just like we grow daily, we should accept and embrace change.

Since change is inevitable, no matter how bad or good, we can glean some lessons from it.  Sometimes change demoralizes but often times it motivates. All of us let us prepare for the upcoming elections with zeal. It will be a decision-making period.

I know for certain that this time around apathy won’t derail voters. We don’t want apathy to emerge victoriously. Elections are meant to choose our leaders. Everyone must take part wholeheartedly. We can only experience either change for good or change for bad. The future of our nation is in our hands.
