…Introspection Time with JBM
WE are now mid of the year 2021, and I recall publishing an article on embracing positive habits as a 2021 challenge. I have realised that from among the set goals, progress has been experienced mostly in areas I have endeavoured to acknowledge small wins.
This resonates with the decision made a couple of years ago to move into our unfinished house, with no windows, doors, electricity and water among others.
All we wanted as family was to be in our own facility with no pressure for rentals. It looked like a radical move, but has turned out to be one of the rare self-fulfilling decision ever made.
Each month a small project would be targeted towards completion of the house. The small wins recorded compounded over time and before long we have found ourselves in a facility comfortable enough for our liking as family.
My weekly article writing for instance emanate from a simple habit of writing down inspirational thoughts from my daily experiences. Guess what, over time I have struggled less to do the next edition of the article because the small wins have kept me afloat.
According to Tess Miller, small wins can be anything you accomplish that tends to align with your intentions or your ultimate goal.
This principle remains true in every aspect of life whether it is work, academic, professional, business or relationship related among others.
There is eminent power in small wins you make in life.
Apart from contributing towards your progressing towards your goals, they keep you afloat and motivated.
Small wins help you overcome procrastination which is one of the major enemies of progress.
Remember massive growth in any area of your life is hidden in the small wins you record whether daily, weekly, monthly or yearly. It is in the simple habits you engage in and record as wins that you see turn into powerful habits worth revolutionizing your life.
Rosabeth Moss Kanter once said’ I have found that small wins, small projects, small differences often make huge differences..’
Are you overwhelmed with your studies as you prepare for your exams? Is it a business venture that seem insurmountable? Is it the construction project of your house that is discouraging due to lack of adequate resources? Is it a mountain of work at your office that does not seem to be levelled sooner?
Try remain consistent in the small achievements and wins and look back to note the progress you will have made. Do not despise those small wins in your pursuit of set goals.
For that business capital, try the journey of setting aside consistently small amounts of money with the discipline it deserves. You should be able to record big accomplishment as time passes.
Target one lesson per day in that course you may be struggling with, and before long progress in assimilating the information will come knocking at your door.
Stop being too hard on yourself and be deliberate in recognising the small wins in whatever area of your life. Dan Silvestre mentions that small wins as you set them, make them small enough to embarrass you, should you fail to accomplish them.
Remember, celebrating small wins are a life’s principle worth embracing and see your life improve, because small and consistent improvements are key to your success.
Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin………. (Zechariah 4:10 New Living Translation).
Quote:
“Small wins are exactly what they sound like, and are part of how keystone habits create widespread changes (Charles Duhigg).
