TO ensure that no one is left behind in the fight against Climate Change, the World Wide Fund (WWF) in partnership with the Zambia National union of the blind (ZNUB) have launched the national Climate Change learning strategy in Braille.

According to WWF country director Nachilala Nkombo, her organization which is implementing the Voice for Just Climate Action (VCA) project in 10 districts, seeks to promote climate change awareness, literacy and learning as a mean to build a citizenry that was responsible to the impacts of climate change.

Nkombo told the gathering that came to witness the launch if the braille in Mazabuka district that the vulnerable and marginalized groups in society were also affected with of climate change.

She noted that lack of adequate information had persistently contributed to the negative impacts of climate change in the rural communities.

“The learning strategy now in braille will enable and provide an opportunity for citizens who are visually impaired to learn about climate change,” said Nkombo.

However, Nkombo expressed optimism that governments plans to deal with climate change will undergo a consultative and inclusive process in ensuring solutions for combating climate change.

And Mazabuka district commissioner Oliver Mulomba says the launch of the activity in Mazabuka has given the district great responsibilities to ensure that the project was a success.

“It is a fact that persons that a visually impaired are also affected with aggressive impacts of climate change”

Mulomba echoed that the launch is in line with President Hakainde Hichilema’s calls to make Zambia better by including every citizen regardless of political or physical differences.
He added that the country has continued to face unpredictable weather patterns due to changes in the climate resulting in worsened income generation in most households.

“Everyone must come on board to fight the changes of our climate”

The launch held in Kaleya area of Mazabuka district and was graced by a Mazabuka mayor, district commissioner, town clerk, WWF country director, national president for the union of the blind and a representative from the Ministry of Green Economy and Environmentvironment.

Also present were traditional leaders and other heads of government and non-governmental heads of departments.
